American Girl® Doll Customization

A Step Ahead Prosthetics has received significant attention for the American Girl® dolls we customize for children with limb loss. Since many people have inquired, we want to share a few key details.

We do not charge for these customizations because we believe in the importance of representation and inclusion. Having a doll that reflects their own experience can be meaningful for children with limb differences, helping to build confidence, self-esteem, and a sense of belonging.

Any child who has experienced or is facing limb loss is welcome to send us an American Girl® doll, which we will modify to include a prosthetic limb (or limbs) that reflects their own. Each prosthetic piece is designed and fabricated in our workshop—just like real prosthetics—and carefully hand-painted in a variety of colors.
